About the practice

Professional expertise, offered like a person

I'm Harpreet Kaur, a counsellor and family therapist holding an M.Sc. in Counseling and Family Therapy, practising in New Delhi. Antara Therapy is my counselling and psychological wellness practice, working with adults, couples, families, teenagers and children.

I trained in a clinical tradition and I take it seriously. I also think a great deal of what makes therapy work is more ordinary than that: being genuinely listened to by someone who isn't in a hurry, isn't shocked, and isn't grading you.

Philosophy

How I think about this work

Most people arrive already knowing something is wrong. What they usually don't have is a place to look at it without managing someone else's reaction at the same time. That's the first thing therapy provides, and it matters more than any technique.

From there, the work is collaborative. I'll offer frameworks, ask questions you might not have been asked, and sometimes name a pattern you've been living inside for years. But you're the one who knows your life. Anything I suggest is a proposal, not a prescription, and you're free to tell me it doesn't fit.

I don't believe in pushing insight faster than a person can hold it. Going slowly is not a lack of ambition; it's usually what makes the change stay.

Areas of expertise

What I work with most

Where something falls outside my scope, I'll say so and help you find a more appropriate practitioner.

  • Trauma & its aftermath

Single-event and prolonged trauma, including experiences from childhood.

  • Anxiety & low mood

Persistent worry, panic, depressive patterns and the exhaustion around them.

  • Emotional regulation

Reactions that arrive too fast or last too long, in adults and young people.

  • Couples & families

Recurring conflict, emotional distance, parenting strain and communication.

  • Children & teenagers

Behavioural concerns, school pressure, self-esteem and family difficulty.

  • Life transitions

Career change, relocation, separation, loss and the identity questions that follow.

Values

What you can expect of me

  • Confidentiality

Private by default. The ethical limits are explained in the first session, before you share anything.

  • Honesty about limits

No guarantees, no promised timelines. If something isn't working, I'd rather say so than keep going.

  • Your pace

You decide what to discuss and when. Declining a subject is always an acceptable answer.

  • Respect across difference

Culture, faith, language, family structure, gender and sexuality are context to understand, not to correct.

Understand the approach before you commit

A consultation is a short, low-stakes way to see whether this feels like the right fit. You're not agreeing to anything by having one.
